Public holidays when local shops may open in 2020

The two locally decided holidays when shops may open in 2020 will be 29 November and 27 December, which will join the other eight business-opening holidays established by the Catalan government.

The Catalan Parliament’s Act on Commercial Opening Times establishes that local authorities may select two public holidays for opening businesses on, in addition to the eight provided for the whole of Catalonia.

So, the public holidays in 2020 during which shops may open, as agreed with the main organisations representing the city’s commercial sector, are:

  • 5 and 12 January
  • 5 July
  • 15 August
  • 12 October
  • 29 November
  • 6, 13, 20 and 27 December

For 2021, local shops will be able to open on 5 and 12 December and shops in general may choose to open on the following public holidays:

  • 3 and 10 January
  • 4 July
  • 1 and 28 November
  • 5, 6, 8, 12 and 19 December
