Recognition returns for the city's best commercial initiatives
The Barcelona Commerce Awards 2025 were hosted at Les Drassanes Reials, celebrating the dedication of those working in the city’s businesses and markets, as well as the initiatives that make these establishments more innovative, sustainable and high-quality. This year's edition featured updated award categories to reflect the sector's current challenges, as well as to honour the diverse values that drive local commerce. The winners of the Commerce Award in the 2025 edition were:
- Purchasing Excellence Award: Dos Punts is a wool and creative arts shop founded by Alba Zarco in 2015 in the Horta neighbourhood. Blending craftsmanship, creativity and digitalisation, it offers an innovative and exciting shopping experience. Its strong social media presence and initiatives like a loyalty club, workshops, themed window displays and interactive activities have built a loyal and diverse community that extends beyond the local area, making the business a benchmark for neighbourhood commerce.
- Barcelona DNA Award: Celler de Gelida is one of the most iconic establishments in Sants and a reference point for Barcelona’s wine culture. Founded by the Moliné family in 1895 and now run by the fourth generation, the restaurant is a prime example of successful generational succession, staying true to its artisanal roots while embracing new offerings and services.
- Award for Brands or Commercial Groups that Revitalise the City: With over a century of history, Servei Estació is a true icon of Barcelona’s commerce. Founded in 1924 as one of the city’s first petrol stations, it has reinvented itself into a leading store for DIY, hardware and materials for creation and design. Today it occupies an entire nine-storey building in L’Eixample, offering more than 60,000 products and blending tradition with innovation and personalised service. The business collaborates with universities and design schools, participates in cultural projects across the city and drives initiatives such as Voilà! Awards, which encourage creativity material use. A unique space that has been ‘making Barcelona’ for a hundred years.
- Succession+ Award: El Tío Che, an horchata and ice cream parlour, is a Poblenou landmark. Founded in 1912 by a Valencian family that settled in Barcelona, it has preserved the artisanal quality of its products while evolving with the times as new generations of the family have joined the business.
- Albert González Award for Contribution to the Promotion, Innovation and Knowledge of the City’s Commerce: Maria Carmen Mateos Arrebola is one of the most active voices championing and elevating local commerce. With over fifty years’ experience working behind the counter and nearly thirty years’ experience leading the Asociación de Comerciantes Carmel Comerç, she has spearheaded pioneering initiatives in sustainability, solidarity, communication and digitalization, establishing herself as leading example of collaboration between shops and regional organisations.
As fpr the Barcelona Markets–Jordi Maymó Award, outstanding practices in establishments were recognised in two categories:
- Best Individual Initiative (Establishment): Peixateria Ramon has been a fixture at Mercat de Sant Gervasi for over three decades, setting the standard for freshness, quality and personal service. Its presence on social media and at culinary events helps highlight the importance of markets as centres of food culture and trust.
- Best Collective Initiative: Mercat de Santa Caterina, Barcelona’s first covered market, was recognised for its ability to launch solidarity and collective cooperation initiatives. A prime example is its aid campaign for those affected by the DANA floods in Valencia, which mobilised other city markets, suppliers and local residents.
Prósper Puig was also given a special mention for devoting much of his career to strengthening the city’s associations and defending the values of neighbourhood commerce. From the historic Cansaladeria Puig, founded over eighty years ago on Carrer Gran de Sant Andreu, he has promoted numerous projects for the district’s retail network. Since February 2023, he has also served as president of the Fundació Barcelona Comerç.
