Agreement with UNICEF to vaccinate over 50,00 people in Senegal against Covid-19
Some 56.2% of the world’s population have received at least one dose of a vaccine against Covid-19, yet the figure stands at just 7.31% in countries with low incomes and in some African countries it is lower than 2%. Thanks to the agreement signed between the City Council and UNICEF, the sum of 315,000 euros will be used to provide vaccines for Senegal and help reduce the impact of the pandemic in the African country.
Over 50,000 people are expected to benefit from this operation, and the measures to maintain the cold chain, essential for the whole vaccination process, will also enable 8,140 children under the age of 5 to be immunised against other illnesses.
A communication strategy will also be developed to counter erroneous information and disinformation. Nearly a million people around the whole country will receive prevention messages and reliable information on vaccines.
The initiative responds to the call from UNICEF to collaborate in the worldwide response to the health crisis through the COVAX programme, a global solidarity alliance working to equally distribute vaccines, and which has already delivered 709 million doses in 144 countries.
