At a time of transformation, and amid major events shaping the future of the continent, the 46th Barcelona Grec Festival makes Europe the protagonist and, in a bid to imagine the future of the stage, revisits some of the continent’s great moments of theatre and literature with classics such as El burlador de Sevilla, Hamlet, Paraíso Perdido, Tartufo and Safo.

The Barcelona Grec Festival 2022 starts on 28 June and will last four weeks, with 86 shows and over 50 activities around 55 city venues. The festival opens with a show by the NDT 1 company from the Nederlands Dans Theater, who will be performing Tres choreographies, including a brand new work by the Dutch Valencian Marina Mascarell and two others by Sharon Eyal and William Forsythe.

From the global to the local scene

With the worst of the pandemic behind us, the festival regains its international connections and continues to back local creation and talent, with 34 joint productions in this sphere, the Barcelona Crea grants, the ‘Creació i museus’ project and the lecture cycle ‘On el teatre batega’.

The music programme includes twenty shows, ranging from Jane Birkin and a night for fados with Cuca RosetaCamané and Mário Laginha, to a presentation of Jaume Sisa’s latest disc by various artists, to Roger Mas and Els Pets.
