This is the first time the festivity of Corpus Christi has a programme with activities in all districts, thanks to joint organisation with 47 city organisations and bodies. There are 38 spaces and fifty activities in store all together, with health and safety measures such as limited capacities and the obligatory use of face masks.

Where to see The Dancing Egg

The unique Corpus Christi tradition will see eggs dancing on fifteen fountains around the whole city: the cathedral, the Arxiu de la Corona d’Aragó, the Arxiu Històric – Casa de l’Ardiaca, the Ateneu Barcelonès, the Capitania General, the Jardins de Rubió i Lluch, the Museu Frederic Marès, the Museu Marítim, the Centre Cívic Can Deu, the Oratori de Sant Felip Neri, the Puríssima Concepció and Santa Maria del Taulat churches, Plaça de la Virreina, the Monestir de Pedralbes and the Taller Sant Camil del Guinardó.

Flower carpets

The number of flower carpets has been increased to 17 this year, to include classic locations: the Casa dels Entremesos, the Museu Etnològic i de les Cultures del Món, the Santa Maria del Remei church, Plaça de la Virreina, the City Hall, the Basílica de Santa Maria del Mar, the Biblioteca Francesc Boix, Can Galta Cremat, the Centre Municipal de Cultura Popular de Sant Andreu, Carrer de la Llibertat, the Casal de Barri del Poblenou, the canopy in Via Júlia, Parc de Sant Martí, the Santa Maria del Taulat church, Plaça del Consell de la Vila, Plaça del Mercat del Clot, Plaça d’Orfila and the Torre de la Sagrera.

More popular culture activities

The festivity has regained the eve of Corpus Christi in Plaça del Rei, an event which hasn’t been celebrated since 1979 and which consisted of various giants coming out to announce the arrival of Corpus Christi. Now the City Giants, the Pi Giants and the Santa Maria del Mar Giants are back to dance. Bookings are required to attend this event, and can be made on the Casa dels Entremesos website.

Various activities are planned at the Museu Etnològic i de les Cultures del Món, such as presentations of publications relating to Corpus Christi, while some facilities will be offering guided tours. These include the Arxiu Històric de la Ciutat – Casa de l’Ardiaca, the Ateneu Barcelonès, the Casa dels Entremesos, the Catedral, the Museu Frederic Marès and the Monestir de Pedralbes.

The Casa dels Entremesos has also organised a varied programme for all types of visitors, with a puppet show, theatrical tours and two special exhibitions on the 700th anniversary: “Trampes, trampes, tot són trampes. Els vestits dels timbalers de Corpus” and “Octaves. La festa de Corpus als barris de Barcelona (1892-1965)”.

The celebration ends on 6 June with the traditional Corpus Christi procession, which also requires booking in advance to attend. The ceremony has been reduced to a small procession in Av. Catedral, after the Corpus Christi mass, featuring the Seguici Popular entourage of festive figures, which will also be on display at the City Hall from Sunday 30 May to Sunday 6 June.
