El Molino, the new municipal cultural venue
The process to acquire El Molino is now under way, with the former venue in Av. Paral·lel to become part of the municipal network of cultural facilities. Somewhere between a concert café, a transgressive cabaret and a theatre, this legendary centenarian venue will pave the way for Barcelona’s culture houses, a new generation of publicly owned facilities. The acquisition of El Molino will cost 6.2 million euros. This symbolic space for popular culture in Barcelona is to be turned into one of the facilities that will help make Av. Paral·lel a new space for gathering, for participation and access to culture.
Barcelona culture houses
The new Molino will help drive the city’s culture houses, along with the future Casa de la Música, the current Sala Barts and the Teatre Arnau. This new generation of facilities will combine public-private management, the promotion of innovation in performing arts and extra vitality at a community and territorial level.
Barcelona’s culture houses will help the cultural network flourish through different spheres, generating new resources for its development and seeking the recognition and extension of cultural rights in terms of access to content and citizen participation.
