Dual training reaches 103 municipal nursery schools

Dual vocational training is being offered at all of Barcelona’s municipal nursery schools as from the current school year. The move consolidates a training model launched a decade ago and gradually adopted successfully at infant schools.

Besides their educational function for children up to the age of three, the city’s 103 municipal nursery schools are now also operating as training centres for an equivalent number of students pursuing higher vocational training cycles in infant education from seven secondary schools: the Institut Ferran Tallada, the Institut Salvaldor Seguí, the Institut Miquel Tarradell, the Escola Tecnicoprofessional Xavier, the Bemen 3 centre, the Centre López Vicunya and the Escola Solc Nou. Municipal nursey schools have trained 748 students to date.

The dual vocational training model consists of students getting part of their education through training and production activities with companies, a model introduced in Catalonia during the 2012-2013 school year. That same year, the City Council started work to launch the project in various schools in the nursey school network.

The leap represented by all public infant schools in the city joining the dual training project also comes with an increased budget, rising from 180,000 euros per school year to 376,000 euros. The budget also covers grants that accompany the training, as the stage for the second year comes with remuneration.
