Up to 8,000 euros as an incentive for work contracts for the unemployed

The new edition of the Crea Feina Plus programme offers incentives for companies taking on people out of work, with subsidies of between 2,000 and 8,000 euros. This year’s programme is open to businesses in the retail sector which need to take on staff as they plan to open for longer hours and on public holidays.

Sums available to companies through this programme will vary. Companies giving work contracts to people from highly vulnerable groups, including refugees and displaced people, will be entitled to subsidies of up to 8,000 euros for full-time contracts, and between 2,000 and 6,000 euros for part-time contracts.

In the case of the long-term unemployed, subsidies vary from 5,000 to 6,000 euros if contracts are for the under-30s, the over-45s or women, which indicators show to be the groups with most difficulties finding work.

The two million euros earmarked for this programme will help create stable quality contracts as they will be for full-time hours for more than six months, except where they are for people at risk of social exclusion, where contracts may be part-time. The contracts also represent a net increase in the workforce of companies and will provide a boost for business activity, the vitality of the production network and quality employment.

Promoted by Barcelona Activa, the subsidies can be requested via this website from 2 June to 25 November.

Over a thousand companies in the last five years

Initiatives such as Crea Feina Plus have reached 1,400 companies in the last five years. Commerce accounted for some 20% of access to the subsidies to foster employment, a volume similar to the business services sector, ahead of ICT (12%) and hospitality and tourism (8%). Most contracts have been for women and people with few qualifications, largely in SMEs.
