The first edition of this international event will help analyse global and economic challenges, introducing projects by start-ups from universities and research centres. The event will also look at advances in fields such as health, biotechnology, urban mobility and industry.

The Deep Tech Summit comes off the back of the Barcelona Deep Tech Node, an initiative launched six months ago by Barcelona Activa and the public universities  UB, UAB, UPC, UPF and UOC. The initiative provides support for science-based projects and helps equip them with more tools and resources for their development in the city, strengthening their economic dimension and speeding up their entry into the market. A hundred start-ups are currently benefitting from the initiative.

Solid science and tech standing on a global scale

The city is becoming a leader in deep tech. The Nature Index global ranking of cities in the field of science for 2020 put Barcelona 40th in the world, among the top ten on a European level and in first place in southern Europe. In addition, according to the publication Startup Heatmap, the number of tech innovation start-ups in Barcelona surpasses those in Paris, Berlin and London.
