Streets adapted and parks reopened for safe use of public space

We’re adapting the city to make it safe for people to go for walks, do sport and get around their neighbourhoods during the lockdown exit period. As from tomorrow, 1 May, XXXX kilometres of secondary roads in the city will be reserved for pedestrians from 9 am to 9 pm, with seventy parks with entrance gates also to re-open.

The goal is to guarantee safe routes at least four metres wide for people to use on foot in all neighbourhoods. The routes include wide pavements, streets with priority for pedestrians, squares and avenues.

The streets to be closed to traffic are mainly located in neighbourhoods with fewer safe spaces, with no access to large open spaces and with a high population density.

Local residents, emergency vehicles and others needing to load or unload will be allowed access.

Back to the parks!

A total of 70 parks with entrance gates will be re-opening on 1 May, enabling people to go for walks near their homes, in their local neighbourhoods, in touch with nature. The Parc de la Ciutadella will be re-opening on 4 May.

What to bear in mind?

  • These are places for passing through.
  • Children’s play areas are still closed.
  • Dog areas are open: remember that guide dogs have priority, socialising is not permitted, and users should be in these areas for the briefest time possible, ensuring they clear up dog dirt and use soap and water to wash down spots where their dogs urinate.
  • Distancing of two metres from other users is required.
  • Litter bins should be used.
  • Vegetation and nests should be respected.

Maintenance of green areas will be carried out gradually over the coming days.

What you need to know to go out or do exercise?

Walks and sports activities should be carried out with caution, respecting protection measures. The following must be taken into account:

  • Walks can be taken up to one kilometre from home, maintaining the safety distance of two metres between people.
  • Sports activities can be carried out within the municipality, also maintaining the safety distance of two metres between people.
  • Children under 14 can go out between 12 noon and 7 pm.
  • People aged between 14 and 69 can go out between 6 am to 10 am, and between 8 pm to 11 pm.
  • The over-70s and dependent people can go out between 10 am to 12 noon, and between 7 pm and 8 pm.
  • Walks can be taken with fellow householders.
  • Sports activities must be done individually.
  • Plan the route and prioritise wide streets.
  • Avoid narrow streets where it’s difficult to maintain social distances.
  • Seventy parks will be open from 10 am to 9 pm.
  • Children’s play areas and the beaches remain closed.
  • The beaches are closed.
  • The seafront can be used for sports activities and for walking during the times permitted.
  • The Mar Bella nautical base is open for surfing activities.
