The material includes 600,000 surgical masks, 5,000 protective suits, 12,000 pairs of goggles and 9,600 caps.

The materials will be used by staff providing the following essential services:

  • Health support
  • Social services
  • City police
  • Fire services
  • Cleaning services
  • Care workers
  • Markets
  • Cemeteries

The materials were sent from the Chinese city of Shanghai. The acquisition was possible thanks to the collaboration of the city’s Chinese community, which helped provide contacts.

Other Chinese cities with agreements with Barcelona have confirmed they will be donating medical and healthcare materials, for instance, 150,000 masks, which will be arriving in the next few weeks.

Donations

Besides direct purchases of materials, the channel for entities, companies and individuals to donate masks, disinfectants and industry-approved protective suits remains open, helping in the fight against Covid-19.
