A boost for innovative companies in healthcare

BCN Health Booster is an accelerator programme which has been launched in collaboration with the UB’s Barcelona Science Park to provide backing for start-ups with innovative business projects in the field of healthcare. Barcelona Activa is also involved in the initiative, with business support coming from Biocat. The programme offers a paradigmatic example of collaboration between public centres, businesses, universities and administrations to promote innovation in healthcare and a return for society from the research investment promoted by the Barcelona Science Plan.

Eleven innovative business projects will get access to a three-year programme offering subsidised rents at a lab in the Barcelona Science Park, along with expert support from Biocat which is adapted to their needs.

A space of 527 square metres will be provided at the Clúster II building, with different labs for the chosen companies, either with exclusive use or through a co-working format, as from 1 December 2021. Rents and general services will be subsidised by the Park for three years: 70% in the first year, 45% in the second and 20% in the third.

The Biocat business support programme will include training, mentorship and personalised advice on access to funding and participation in the Biocat programmes Health & Bio Team Dating and Investment Readiness Series (TIRS), as well as networking with the hundred plus members in the science park community.

Who can take part?

The BCN Health Booster is open to companies set up within the last five years and developing pharmaceutical products, biotech or medical equipment, as well as companies providing services in the healthcare sector which need the use of a lab for their activity.

Candidacies will be assessed according to the following criteria: technical and economic feasibility, promoting team and social impact of the project, with priority given to companies referred from public research centres, hospitals and universities.

Candidacies can be put forward until 17 September on this website.
