New walk-in vaccination points for neighbourhoods with fewer immunised people

New mobile walk-in vaccination points to be installed weekly in two city neighbourhoods to administer single-dose Janssen vaccines. The goal is to boost the percentage of immunised people in neighbourhoods with the lowest vaccination rates and to facilitate access for the most vulnerable groups, the goal being to reduce the inequalities in the immunisation strategy against Covid-19 in the city.

The points will be operating from 16 September. During this month they will visit Ciutat Meridiana, El Raval, La Marina de Port and El Gòtic. Users do not need an appointment and will be given the single-dose Janssen jab.

The next few weeks will see vaccination days in the neighbourhoods, with priority given to areas with fewer people vaccinated.

Calendar

The mobile points have been operating in the second week of September in the neighbourhoods of Bon Pastor, Baró de Viver and Poble-sec, having previously been in El Raval, Trinitat Vella and El Besòs i el Maresme, where they vaccinated 455 people in all.

Mobile vaccination points will be in the following locations soon:

  • 16 September: Ciutat Meridiana (Nou Barris). Plaça Roja, from 10 am to 2 pm.
  • 17 September: El Raval (Ciutat Vella). Rambla del Raval, from 10 am to 2 pm.
  • 23 September: La Marina de Port (Sants-Montjuïc). Time and location to be confirmed.
  • 30 September: Gòtic (Ciutat Vella). Time and location to be confirmed.

People who can get vaccinated at mobile points

People going to walk-in vaccination points must meet the following requisites:

  • Resident in Barcelona.
  • Over 40 years old, or over 18 in the case of vulnerable groups with difficulties accessing the general vaccination campaign.
  • Provide a healthcare card, or for those without one, any other type of identity document.

Vaccination strategy in the city

The Vaccination Inequality Office, made up of the Barcelona Public Health Agency (ASPB), Barcelona City Council, the Catalan Health Institute (ICS) and the  Barcelona Health Consortium (CSB), is taking another step in the territorial action plan aimed at reducing these differences in the city, reaching vulnerable groups and helping them get vaccinated. The office will conduct a weekly follow-up on the process, extending the dates and locations according to the needs of each neighbourhood.

Data for the vaccination process

  • In the period up to 9 September, the percentage of people over 12 who have received the first jab was 83.75% (84.5% among women and 82.84% among men).
  • Among people over 15, the difference between basic healthcare areas (ABS) with more or fewer people vaccinated is 23%, a much lower figure than the initial figure of 30%.
  • The vaccination support points have helped over 1,700 people, some 53% men and 47% women. The most active points have been Ciutat Vella (541 people), Nou Barris (381 people) and Horta-Guinardó (289 people). By age, those requesting support have mainly been in the 40-49 age group, although there has been more activity from younger people in the summer.
