The Time Pact makes its way around the ten districts

Casa Elizalde, in the Eixample district, is the first venue to host the travelling exhibition on the Barcelona Time Pact. The pact promotes time as a citizen right, as a way of achieving a healthier, more egalitarian and efficient organisation of time. The display offers a visual and graphic account of experiences and good practice in each of the different spheres of action addressed by the pact. It will also be the prelude for the 43rd International Association for Time Use Research Conference (IATUR), to be held in the city from 27 to 29 October.

The exhibition will reach all the city districts between June and October, ending up at the Centre Cívic Tomasa Cuevas in the district of Les Corts. The display explains the recommendations proposed and the benefits to be gained from the application of the pact, such as a better work climate, greater personal well-being, better quality of sleep and the prevention of illnesses.

The display also shows the impact of time policies for people and the existing inequalities between men and women in terms of time use, as well as warning of the dangers, such as an abusive use of screens for the emotional health of teenagers or the poor management of labour mobility.

Each district will be presenting a workshop talk to complement the exhibition, with the collaboration of local organisations. In addition, each district office will feature a ‘Got a minute?’ mailbox for citizens to offer suggestions on time use. The results of this input will be announced during Time Use Week at the end of 2021.

A pact for living and working better

The Time Pact involves organisations, companies and public services in the city, and builds in the perspective of the goals in the 2030 Agenda. It is based around seven areas:

  • education
  • health
  • care
  • participation
  • work
  • services in the city
  • mobility and ICTs

The pact pursues the goals of harmonising times, making organisations more efficient, a new management of working time, equality between men and women, the use of ICTs and the climate emergency, plus the adaptation to the new reality caused by the pandemic.

The health crisis has driven a new organisation and management of working time, representing an opportunity to achieve healthier and more equal timetables and habits.

Barcelona, work capital in time-use policies

The 43rd IATUR Conference will turn the city into the world capital for time-use policies, with the exchange of ideas and good practice and the latest research in this field. Various activities are being organised to introduce people to the Barcelona Time Pact and seek ties with citizens and organisations.
