New subsidies to combat the feminisation of poverty

A total of 450,000 euros is being allocated to 46 projects to reduce poverty and job insecurity among women, particularly in spheres such as employment and labour insertion (almost half of the projects subsidised), women’s empowerment and participation (a third). Other areas include health, housing, training and care.

The initiatives are mainly aimed at women in precarious situations, with no home or with functional diversity or health issues, and at migrant women, Roma women, victims of violence and domestic and care workers.

All the projects share goals with the strategy against the feminisation of poverty and precariousness 2016-2024, a plan which includes a broad set of measures to foster the labour insertion of women in vulnerable situations, the dignification of labour sectors where women predominate and the fight against gender inequalities in the formal market. The plan is also geared towards promoting the basic social conditions, empowerment and socio-political participation of the most vulnerable women.

The selection criteria for the projects include the innovation of projects and their connection with women’s job insecurity and poverty caused by the Covid-19 crisis, which has had a greater impact on women as they started from a more vulnerable position before the pandemic.

Projects will receive a percentage of the total cost of the activity to be subsidised, up to a total of 25,000 euros, and will have to be carried out before the end of August 2021.
