The certificates recognise that safety guarantees are being applied to protect workers and visitors alike at the zoo.

The Safe Tourism Certified seal was created by the Spanish Institute for Quality in Tourism (ICTE) and recognises tourist facilities which successfully implement protocols on safety, prevention and hygiene.

Online sales and reduced capacity

The main safety measures applied by Barcelona Zoo have been a 50% reduction in the volume of visitors around the whole site and the promotion of online ticket sales. The flow of visitors in enclosed spaces has been redesigned to minimise contact between them, while eateries have been adapted to help spread users out. At the same time, the children’s summer activity programmes operated at the zoo have smaller groups and their own eating areas.

Signs have also been put up around the whole site, with recommendations on safety measures that people should follow. Hand sanitiser dispensers are available too and cleaning and disinfection has been intensified in all areas.
