Passeig Joan de Borbó to get a new bike lane

The new two-way cycling lane will be 3.5 metres wide and located on the road surface, next to the pavement on the side nearest the port. The new section will connect the city with the seafront through a new cyclable corridor linking with the future bike lanes in Via Laietana and Passeig Picasso.

The new bike lane will be located between the streets of Ginebra and Escar, in the district of Ciutat Vella. The route includes two bus-stops with platforms, where cyclists will have to give priority to pedestrians getting on and off buses.

When the new bike lane is completed, the street will have a two-way bike lane, a bus lane and a traffic lane in the direction of the sea. In the direction of the city, there will be a service lane, a bus lane and a traffic lane in the section between the streets of Escar and Pepe Rubianes, and a bus lane and two traffic lanes in the section between the streets of pepe Rubianes and Ginebra.

The new section will create a new cyclable corridor with the bike lane in Via Laietana and Passeig Picasso, freeing up the passage nearest the port for bicycles and avoiding coexistence issues with pedestrians.

Disruptions to mobility because of work

Work will be carried out in stages and should take five months, occupying one traffic lane in each direction from today until the end of February. This means that there will be one traffic lane in the direction of the sea and two traffic lanes and a bus lane in the direction of the mountains.

After this work, the two traffic lanes in the direction of the sea and the central reservation will be occupied. One traffic lane will be guaranteed in each direction at all times, as well the services lane on the side nearest the Besòs.
