New Neighbourhood Plan to act in 23 city neighbourhoods

The Neighbourhood Plan continues to transform the city. The second stage of the programme has now been presented and aims to redress inequalities between neighbourhoods in the city. The Neighbourhood Plan 2021-2024 has a budget of 150 million euros and includes seven new neighbourhoods, after a careful study of indicators: Verdum, Can Peguera, Turó de la Peira and La Prosperitat (Nou Barris), El Carmel and Can Baró (Horta-Guinardó) and Poble-sec (Sants-Montjuïc). These neighbourhoods will be added to the 16 from the previous stage, with action to be implemented at two different rhythms.

The success of the Neighbourhood Plan and the transformation policies it sets out lies in the support and involvement of local people, to help implement action in the neighbourhoods. This autumn will see community work get under way to define the projects for the second stage, to be started in 2021. The new plan will promote improvements in education, health, housing, employment and the quality of public space. In addition, the link between vulnerability, environmental sustainability and the climate emergency will form a key part in the designing of action.

Neighbourhood Plan 2017-2020, comprehensive and intensive public policy

The Neighbourhood Plan 2017-2020, which is currently coming to an end, implemented over 600 measures to reduce inequalities. Of these, 68% were carried out in the spheres of education and social rights, with improvements at schools, the introduction of new professional profiles at schools and more recreational and education options.

During the health crisis, the plan refocused its resources to respond to new needs which have arisen. Seven offices were set up to help people with procedures for subsidies, cultural and recreational options for children and young people have been strengthened, training has been provided to reduce the digital divide and healthy eating has been promoted through the weekly distribution of hampers with fresh local organic produce from working groups.
