The most global edition of the City and Science Biennial
The City and Science Biennial will be held simultaneously in Barcelona and Madrid for the second year running, from 18 to 23 November. The fourth edition of this leading science event will also be present in Mexico during the Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara, where Barcelona is the guest city.
The Biennial will be reflecting on quantum science and technology which has transformed the world since the early 20th century, with inventions such as the transistor, GPS and lasers, and then a second generation of these technologies with the likes of computation, communication and quantum sensors, also exploring the work of quantum inventions that can help to draw in the future.
The graphic image for this edition, created by the Arauna Studio, represents quantum science as a visual metaphor exploring interconnection, uncertainty and the overlapping of ideas.
The future Ciutadella del Coneixement knowledge hub, which in the next few years will bring together universities, research centres and facilities to lead excellence in research, will be the epicentre for the activities of the Biennial, with the main venue as El Born. Museu d’Història de Barcelona. Other locations to host activities include the Campus de la Ciutadella (Universitat Pompeu Fabra), the Hivernacle del Museu de Ciències Naturals and the Convent de Sant Agustí.
The success of the collaboration between Barcelona and Madrid which began in 2023 backs up the repetition of the joint programme, which in Madrid is coordinated by the Círculo de Bellas Artes.
This year’s team of curators is made up of Alba Cervera, Toni Pou and HacTe, the Barcelona Hub d’Art, Ciència i Tecnologia, and in Madrid by Elisa Garrido and Carlos Sabín.
