The deadline for applications for the Barcelona Crea 2023 Grants, awarded by Barcelona City Council through the Institute of Culture, will run from 9 January to 9 February. In this edition, 1,050,000 euros will be allocated to a total of 175 grants, each worth 6,000 euros, to support the pre-production processes that accompany the creation of artistic proposals, conceptualisation, research, experimentation, documentation, and rehearsal. The call includes a modality of Creation in art and science with ten grants.

Natural persons over the age of 18, legally constituted legal entities and groups of persons, even if they do not have legal personality (in which case a representative must be appointed), are eligible for these grants. In all cases, the proposals submitted must be newly created and relate to the city of Barcelona or its Metropolitan Area. Proposals must be assessed in accordance with general criteria (degree of innovation, and consideration of gender and intercultural perspectives in the content of the proposal) and specific criteria (artistic quality, relationship between the subject of the proposal and the city of Barcelona, the CV and professional career of the applicant, and the future prospects of the proposal).

As a new feature of this call, some of the modalities, such as Creation in art and science, allow applicants to apply for “Grants +”. This type of grant offers the possibility that some of the people or entities that are awarded the grants may also carry out a residency to develop the grant proposal. For the selection of the Grants +, the main consideration will be given to the fit of the proposals in the different artistic lines of the facilities of the Creation Factories Network that offer the residency in this call.

A virtual information session has been organised on 19 January at 11 a.m. to resolve doubts and provide further information. To participate in the session, it is necessary to register until 17 January at 11:59 p.m. via this form.

Modality H – Creation in art and science

This modality is aimed at supporting artistic creation proposals that incorporate the interrelation of artistic languages with scientific and technological languages. Proposals may be based on any artistic discipline and approach science from any field of human knowledge, from experimental sciences and technology to the various fields of social sciences and humanities. Ten grants are foreseen in this modality, and there is also the possibility of awarding “Grants +” in this modality.
