Fixed speed cameras: notifications start for drivers breaking speed limits

From October to January, the seventeen fixed speed cameras located near schools at spots regarded as representing a risk will be used to notify drivers breaking the speed limit. The notifications will inform drivers of the speed they were travelling at and remind them of the obligation to respect traffic regulations. This stage is a prelude to the start of fines being issued, from January 2023.

Speeding is one of the main indirect causes of traffic accidents. The goal of the seventeen fixed speed cameras is to cut accident rates and improve road safety around schools where the limit is 30 km/h, and at five points around roads regarded as posing greater risk and where the limit is 50 km/h.

The fixed speed cameras in the city form part of the goals in the Urban Mobility Plan 2024 and the Barcelona Local Road Safety Plan 2019-2022.
