The organisations making up the Barcelona Alzheimer Board are (in alphabetical order): Alzheimer Catalunya Fundació, Associació de Familiars de Malalts d’Alzheimer de Barcelona (AFAB), Fundació ACE, Fundació Pasqual Maragall and Fundació Uszheimer.

The BCN Alzheimer information channel includes over a hundred questions and answers, with basic facts and explanations about Alzheimer’s disease, prevention, activities and resources for sufferers and carers in the city, relating to people with the disease, possible legal queries and more.

The new channel also includes brief features with practical up-to-date information on the disease, its evolution and its impact on family and friends. The platform offers useful information through the various stages of the disease, going further than medical treatments, as well as a chat option for people to formulate specific queries.

The information channel was set up in the context of the situation with Covid-19, which has highlighted the need to facilitate remote access to information resources. It is also intended as a long-term resource and actually includes information on other neuro-degenerative diseases. With a view to a second stage, work is already under way with organisations such as the Associació Catalana de la Malaltia de Huntington and the Associació Catalana per al Parkinson to offer broader information.

The platform has been launched to coincide with World Alzheimer’s Day (21 September) and can be found here.
