The application period for the ‘Travel for the elderly’ programme is open from 10 to 24 May. For the last 25 years the City Council has been offering subsidies for the value of 40% of the state-run IMSERSO holidays for the elderly. The current programme corresponds to holidays in the first half of 2019 and offers support for 2,000 people officially residing in Barcelona and entitled to free pink cards.

Applicants registering for the ‘Travel for the elderly 2018-2019’ campaign should do so at the Citizen Help and Information Offices (OAC) in the various districts. Prior appointments are recommended and can be booked at, via the procedures and services screens in the OACs, by calling 010 or via the Mobile ID app.

Free pink card holders can be accompanied by their partners, who should also possess a pink card, and by children with degrees of disabilities equal to or over 45%.

Everyone whose application is accepted will receive a letter in October indicating the date and time they should book their holiday with the corresponding travel agency.

Thanks to this campaign, 1,838 people were able to go on holiday last year, a 16% increase on the 1,585 who benefitted the previous year. Nou Barris, Sant Martí and Sants-Montjuïc were the districts with the most participants, with women participating more than men in all three.

The campaign forms part of the City Council’s ‘Travel to grow’ programme, aimed at boosting active ageing and facilitating free pink card holders a package of offers and activities relating to tourism.
