The renewal of the Global Cities programme by the CIDOB, directed by Agustí Fernández de Losada, is based on the need to analyse the impact of the Covid-19 crisis in cities, and how they have been in the front line when it comes to containing the social and health emergency and immediately responding to people’s needs.

There will be a boost for research connected to the principles of the 2030 Agenda, such as sustainability, equity and digital innovation, which the pandemic has shown to be key areas when it comes to ensuring urban resilience in the face of the recent crisis.

An analysis will also be made of how to promote a transition towards healthier and more liveable cities, where the principle of proximity prevails and where neighbourhoods once again become the focus of urban life. Priority will also be given to ensuring a people-centred digital transition.

The agreement was presented in a session attended by Laia Bonet, Deputy Mayor for 2030 Agenda, Digital Transition, Sports and Territorial and Metropolitan Coordination, as well as the director of the CIDOB, Pol Morillas, and the urban advisor to Paris City Council, Carlos Moreno, promotor of the concept of “the city in 15 minutes”.
