The Mapit CARE project aims to help cut the number of serious traffic accidents by analysing riding and driving styles, vehicle conditions and accident locations, through a sensors fitted on motorcycles. The data constantly transmitted by the sensor is used to make recommendations to riders, who can check them with an app before journeys, and to provide anonymous information to the City Council on the habits of riders and the most complex points and times so that the necessary corrective measures can be applied. The project will get 77,043 euros in funding and has the advantage that there are already 17,000 motorcycles with sensors in Barcelona.

The company Dome Rider will be testing an advanced rider assistance system which uses the potential of computer vision and AI to warn riders of real potential dangers nearby through lights fitted on their mirrors to indicate collisions, blind spots, safety distances and more. This could help reduce the number of accidents thanks to the additional time offered by the warnings. The system will also send data to the cloud in real time so that it can be analysed later. This means riders will have information on warnings they received during journeys and where these occurred, while the City Council will be able to identify spots with the highest concentration of warnings and take preventive action. The project will get 96,000 euros to install the system on a fleet of motorcycles for a pilot project.

The challenged was launched by the City Council with collaboration from the Commissioner’s Office for 2030 Agenda and BIT Habitat and Fira de Barcelona, with the Tomorrow Mobility World Congress. It attracted 46 projects from 20 countries, 63% of them from abroad.
