Extra-curricular sports subsidies for low-income families.

The application period for extra-curricular sports activities for the 2018-2019 school year ends on 3 October. The goal is for no child to miss out on the chance to do sports activities because of their family’s economic circumstances.

The subsidies are designed to help children between the ages of 6 and 17 from families with limited incomes. Families should be on the city’s register of inhabitants and have pre-enrolled the child on one of the programmes officially forming part of the city’s extra-curricular sports programme.

Applications can be made online using the Barcelona City Council procedures website or in person at a Citizen Help and Information Office (OAC).

All children from households meeting the requirements will benefit from these subsidies. Depending on family incomes, the subsidies can cover up to 90% of the cost of the activity, up to a maximum of € 324.

Subsidies are determined according to available family income per year for each member of the family as follows:

  • From 0 to € 6,140: 90%
  • From € 6,140,01 to € 9,959,66: 60%
  • From € 9,959,67 to € 12,000: 30%

Out of the 13,621 applications received last year, 67.74% were awarded the maximum amount available, with 23.69% receiving 60% of the cost and 8.57% receiving 30%.
