Weekend: Museum Night, local and spring festivals and The Family Run

This weekend comes packed with activities. Saturday sees the city’s museums take part in another special open day as they lay on evening tours, guided visits and shows from the afternoon through until the early hours. The arrival of the good weather also brings a more intensive rhythm of local festivals, with seven city districts and neighbourhoods holding their own celebrations this weekend. Sunday brings The Family Run, a festive and inclusive solidarity sports project where families take centre stage.

The evening of Saturday 18 May will once again be a special occasion. Over eighty cultural facilities in Barcelona and the metropolitan area will be displaying their treasures, surrounded by light and festive activities for a new edition of Museum Night, marking International Museum Day.

Participating centres will be open 7 pm to 1 am, inviting visitors to come along and discover an experience made more unique by the organisation of family activities, shows, music and tours around hidden corners. Local and spring festivals

Now that spring is well under way, more traditional local festivals and community celebrations are taking place around the city. Six neighbourhoods and one district are holding their main festivals or smaller versions this weekend. Nou Barris will be immersed in a festive atmosphere from 14 to 19 May, with concerts, dances, communal meals, theatre, competitions and children’s activities.

The concert ‘Meridiana Rock’ is being organised in the Parc de Can Dragó on Friday afternoon, along with the opening speech for the festival and an LGBTI parade. On Saturday morning there’s a walk around Collserola and at midday there’s sardana dancing. In the afternoon there’s a gathering of giants and a popular culture procession. On Sunday it’s the turn of the fun run, a human towers morning and concerts, while in the evening there’s a fire dance and a fire in the Parc Central. See the full festival programme here.

The other festivals continuing over the weekend are the Festa Major del Guinardó, the Festes de Primavera de la Barceloneta (until 2 June), the Festa Major del Bon Pastor, the Festa Major de Navas (Sant Andreu) and Porta (Nou Barris) and the Festes de Maig del Poblenou, with popular culture, concerts and a fair for entities. Sports with the family

The Family Run is being held on Sunday at 9.30 am and offers a festive and inclusive solidarity fun run aimed at reducing child obesity and promoting healthy habits. Five different events are being held: a race on wheels (for children up to the age of 14) and runs with categories for children aged from 3 to 5, from 6 to 9 and from 10 to 14, along with a run for adults. At the same time, a gymkhana and other play-based healthy family activities are also being organised. See the programme here.
