The City Council will contribute €1.4 million per year through the MICE Fund, which was set up in 2021 to mitigate the impact of the pandemic. The remaining budget will be provided by the Barcelona Hotel Guild and the Barcelona Convention Bureau from their operating funds (€1.5 million), as well as by Turisme de Barcelona (€300,000).

The MICE sector —meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions — represents the city’s conference and corporate events industry, which generated an economic impact of around €1.38 billion in Barcelona last year.

According to estimates by the Barcelona Convention Bureau, every euro invested in the sector generates a return of €450.
