Agreement to adjust the calendar for payments from the Sagrada Família

Agreement with the Sagrada Família to adjust the calendar for economic contributions from the temple to improve public transport and maintenance in the vicinity. The sum of 36 million euros over ten years remains unchanged, but the budgetary items for 2020 and 2021 are to be redistributed due to the drop in visitor numbers and the effects of Covid-19.

The financial compensation from the Sagrada Família for the effects its activity has on the city is intended to improve urban planning, boost mobility and public transport and maintain public space in good condition in the surrounding area.

Adjustments to economic contributions from the Sagrada Família

Budgetary items for 2020:

  • 2.2 million euros for public transport: 600,000 euros this month and the rest in 2022.
  • 300,000 euros for maintenance of the surrounding area: 225,000 euros has already been paid and the rest will be paid in 2022.

Budgetary items for 2021:

  • 2.2 million euros for public transport: 1.1 million to be paid this year and the rest in 2021 or 2022, depending on the volume of activity at the temple.
  • 300,000 euros for maintenance of the surrounding area: to be paid over the course of this year.

The adjustments to the payment calendar were agreed due to the drop in visitor numbers at the Sagrada Família and the effects that Covid-19 has had for economic activity at the temple. The agreement will now go to the commission stage and then before the Full Council for its final approval.

Besides the economic contribution of 36 million euros over a period of ten years, the historic agreement with the temple, signed in 2018, included the regularisation of work on the building.
