involved in the tendering process. The Catalan Tribunal for Public Sector Contracts resolved the dispute by ruling in favour of the decision taken by the district.

The company which won the contract has already started installing the new public toilets. The eleven cabins have inside lights and an automatic cleaning system, guaranteeing they are clean after each use. The new toilets put an end to the plastic alternatives which had provisionally been installed at the same points in the district.

The public toilets located in streets form part of the district plan to provide access to this basic service for local people and pedestrians, taking into account the intensive use of public space in this district. A pilot project was conducted during the last term of office and was very well received by local people, who consider them useful and necessary to improve coexistence and, most of all, to avoid certain types of uncivil behaviour.

Along with public toilets in local facilities, the eleven new toilets mean Ciutat Vella now has a total of 28 public toilets.
