The Ateneu La Bòbila work centre and the Casal de Joves de Porta youth centre are housed in a new facility in a newly revamped space in Pl. Sóller, in the district of Nou Barris. Work to renovate and extend the site got under way in 2019 but was interrupted by the outbreak of Covid-19.

With an overall investment of 4.5 million euros, the urban remodelling project has turned the square into a more accessible multi-purpose garden space, with new spaces for people to do sports and spend time in. The project also involved a revamp and extension to the facility La Bòbila, adopting energy efficiency and sustainability criteria.

La Bòbila is a community managed facility based on networking between various organisations in the neighbourhood belonging to the Federació Transfroma Porta and Totxana, the facility’s managing body. The centre is home to two local community projects, the work centre and the youth centre, which between them facilitate and help organise the community to improve quality of life for local people and foster participation.

This community development in Porta is one of the main goals of La Bòbila, which drives initiatives to strengthen the neighbourhood on a social, economic, environmental and cultural scale, from an intercultural, cross-cutting and socially transforming perspective.
