Renovation work completed in the Jardins de la Reina Victòria Eugènia, in Gran Via

Located in the central section of the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, between Rambla de Catalunya and Passeig de Gràcia, the Jardins de la Reina Victòria Eugènia have now regained their original essence. The project also renewed trees, lighting and paving, and shifted and enlarged the pedestrian section next to Passeig de Gràcia with its high volume of users.

Protected a century ago, these gardens were promoted by Nicolau M. Rubió i Tudurí, the director of Public Parks and Trees with Barcelona City Council from 1917 to 1937. Rubió i Tudurí had the idea that this garden, also known as the Jardí de les Quatre Copes, would offer a green space without interfering with circulation, providing a local rest area and a garden for children.

The renovation project took the geometry of the elements in the original project as its reference: the four cups (sculptures in the shape of urns) and the lateral parterres (where the pedestrian crossings were previously), which have been enlarged and given garden elements.

In terms of urban furniture such as benches, the four cups and the fountain like the one in Canaletes, with a special importance and heritage value, have been restored. The project also added a wi-fi point and keeps the Bicing station and the metro entrance as important infrastructures.

The overall cost of the work was around 900,000 euros.
