The Mayor responds to young children’s doubts and concerns about confinement

A new programme will see the Mayor answering questions sent in by young children from Barcelona about their experiences during the confinement period. The programme will act as a tool to provide support for little ones and help them bring into view what they’re going through at this exceptional time.

Being confined to their homes has its own specific effect on the city’s youngest residents, who are currently going through an exceptional situation. In an effort to give them a louder voice, listen to their concerns and make their perspective visible to all, the City Council is providing a new means of expression which will put young children in contact with the Mayor, with a weekly programme where Ada Colau will be replying to messages sent to her from children.

The Mayor responds to young children

As from 8 April, young children can send their questions about home-confinement to the Mayor, who will be giving the first answer session on Saturday 11 April.

  • How can children send messages? Via WhatsApp, on 670 245 967.
  • What format should they be in? Horizontal videos.
  • When will the messages and the Mayor’s answers be broadcast? In a weekly 30-minute programme on Saturday afternoons at 6.30 pm, starting on 11 April.
  • Where will the programme be shown? The broadcast can be followed live on Betevé and via the website estimatdiari.barcelona.

A collective space for little ones

Estimat diari: Barcelona through the eyes of young children’ is a collective account of the confinement period, seen through the eyes of young children and detailing experiences, reflections and children’s creations in relation to the situation caused by Covid-19. The site offers a creative tool, allowing for all sorts of artistic expressions to be shared, from poems to stories, reflections, paintings, sculptures and visual creations in images.
