About a month ago, the Archives of the Districts of Sants-Montjuïc and les Corts began conservative works to identify the extent of the fungal infection that had been detected in their deposits weeks ago, which was why they had been forced to close temporarily its doors and stop offering its services to the public.

This infection, caused by the high temperatures experienced during the second half of 2022, has affected around 6,000 boxes in the case of the Sants-Montjuïc Archives, and, at the moment, a little more than 1,000 boxes in the case of the Les Corts Archives, where revision work is still continuing. The fungal infection, in many of the boxes, has also affected the documentation contained, a fact that has been monitored when carrying out the identification work and which, in the case of the Sants-Montjuïc Archives, disinfection and cleaning tasks have started, with the forecast that they will also start soon at Les Corts Archives.

It is estimated that the disinfection and cleaning work at both archives will last another four months, with the idea of reopening the two centers to the public next May. Even so, from the website and social networks of the Municipal Archives of Barcelona we will be reporting on the evolution of all these works frequently during the coming weeks.
