Weekend: Festivities in Nou Barris, solidarity with the Xuklis and night time adventures in museumsSpring brings the Nou Barris local festival, with a weekend packed with popular culture, parades, human towers, fun runs, workshops and activities for young and old alike. On Saturday there’s a day of music and solidarity with the Xuklis Festival, as well as a new edition of Museum Night, offering a chance to visit museums and cultural facilities into the early hours and enjoy special sensations.

Nou Barris is holding its local festival from 15 to 21 May, with a substantial number of activities planned for this weekend, including cultural activities, sports, music and gastronomy. This year there’s a chance to take a guided tour of the technology park in the Parc Central de Nou Barris, with actors dressed up as characters from the world of science such as Marie Curie and Albert Einstein.
On Friday morning local residents will be able to visit the Castell de Torre Baró, while in the afternoon the Barcelona Municipal Band are offering a concert and in the evening there’s a musical light and water display in the Parc de Josep Maria Serra Martí. On Saturday morning the Plaça Major de Nou Barris hosts a parade and a children’s festival, followed by the sixth giants’ meeting. In the afternoon it’s time for music, with the concert ‘Fes-te Meridiana. El català, llengua comuna’, promoting the use of Catalan.
Sunday is also packed with activities, with a fun run, basketball in the street, theatre, a breakdance championship and the festival dance. Monday brings the 6th Animal Festival, a popular walk and communal botifarra sausage meal, a choir gathering, participatory magic and a flamenco show. For the full programme click here.
Welcome to the Casa dels Xuklis
The Xuklis Festival is being held in Pla de Montbau on 19 May and offers a day of music and solidarity, with performances by Brighton 64, Suzanna, Mala Vida, The Slingshots, Monturiol’s Band and The Glassland Sinners
The concert starts at 6 pm and will help raise money for La Casa dels Xuclis, a project providing support for families of children with cancer who have to come from far afield to get treatment. The residence is managed by the AFANOC association, which organises outings and activities to improve the quality of life of children and teenagers with cancer and their families.
New edition of Museum Night
Barcelona’s museums invite you to an activity this Saturday which has become an unmissable event: a free visit to numerous cultural facilities, into the early hours. Museum Night is now in its fourteenth edition, with over 80 centres taking part.
The museums will be opening from 7 pm to 1 am and also organising concerts, workshops, guided tours, performances and family activities to make visits a real adventure. For full information on this cultural event click here.
