Where can motorbikes be parked? The ‘Pedestrian City’ campaign is being stepped up to further promote information on motorbike parking. The goal is to free up space on pavements, increasing safety for pedestrians and accessibility for people with reduced mobility, as well as people with pushchairs.
The campaign boost will be applied in ten zones, one in each district, with specific action in the neighbourhood of Vila de Gràcia, where two thousand motorbikes have found to be incorrectly parked on a regular basis.
An initial information stage will come first, followed by warnings for infringements and finally a period of fines.
The campaign, in place since 2017, has helped cut the number of improperly parked motorbikes in the city by 44% in the areas where it has been applied.
Where can you park your motorbike?
Motorbikes should be parked in places available and marked on the road surface. There are more than 70,000 of these.
Motorbikes can also be parked diagonally in rows on the pavement if there is over 6 metres for people to get past and in rows if that space is between 3 and 6 metres. Parking on pavements is prohibited for motorbikes if there is less than 3 metres for people to get past.
It is also worth noting that there must be at least 2 metres between parked motorbikes, whether in the street or on the pavement, and pedestrian crossings and bus stops.
