Spanish Income Tax: what you need to know to fulfil your personal tax obligations

Pensative woman with documents

Every April in Spain, the time for filing income and property tax returns begins.

If you haven’t been living in Barcelona for long, you may be unsure as to whether or not you need to file these tax returns and how the system works.

It is important to know who is considered to be resident in Spain for tax purposes and what this implies, because there are two different taxes:

  • IRPF” for those who are resident in Spain for tax purposes
  • IRNR” for those who are not, but who obtain income in Spain.

In addition, within the “IRPF” category there is a special tax regime applicable to professionals who have relocated, known as “Beckham Law”, which has its own specific characteristics.

Furthermore, those resident in Spain for tax purposes are obliged to declare any bank accounts, shares, real estate, or cryptocurrencies held in foreign countries by filing Form 720. In some cases, it may also be necessary to file a Wealth Tax return.

All these personal tax matters will be discussed in the webinar in a practical way that is useful for people from other countries who have moved to Barcelona.

Anna Klevtsova and Sergi Garcés, international legal advice experts at the Klev&Vera International Law Firm, will explain clearly and in a practical way the key aspects that need to be taken into account and will and answer questions from attendees.
