What do you need to know?

The volant de convivència is a document that shows where a registered individual lives and with whom in Barcelona.

The volante de residència is a document attesting to an individual’s current registration in the municipal register of residents of Barcelona.

Documents stating where a registered individual lives and with whom may not be requested for minors who do not live with the person making the request.

A document stating where a registered individual lives and with whom may never be issued in the name of a non-emancipated minor. It will always be issued in the name of the person applying for it.

What requirements must be met?

  • Volant de convivència: you must be over 18 years of age and be registered as a resident in the city of Barcelona.
  • Volant de residència: you must be over 16 years of age and be registered as a resident in the city of Barcelona.

How long is it valid for?

Neither document expires, but validity varies depending on which formality it was requested for.

Can I apply for these documents for my family?

  • If you are over 18 years of age: Volant de convivència and Volant de residència: you can request them in person for the people registered at your address and for any person of legal age (for those of legal age, provided you have their express authorisation), as well as both documents in the name of minors or legally incapacitated individuals, if their representatives are duly accredited.
  • If you are under 18 years of age: You may not request either document for third parties.

What do you need to do?

What steps must you follow?

Step 1. To request both documents (certificat de convivència or certificat de residència) you must have previously completed the following formality: Registration in the municipal register of residents. Consult at the linked formalities to find out how to do it.

Step 2. You can apply at any time and in three different ways:

Step 4. Receive the document.

  • In person: you will receive the document on the day of the appointment.
  • Online: you can print the document as soon as you finish the online process by going to your personal space on the identification portal.
  • Telephone: you will receive the document by ordinary post at the registered address. It takes approximately seven working days from the application date.

What documentation is needed?

The documentation you must submit depends on your situation.

Below, you will find the documentation you must submit in each case:

  • When you request a certificate for yourself or people over 16 years of age registered at your address, you must submit Documents A.
  • When you request a certificate for people over 16 years of age not registered at your address, you must submit Documents A, Documents B and Documents C.
  • When you are a parent of a minor under 16 years of age and you are registered with them, you must submit Documents A and Documents D.
  • When you are a parent of a minor under 16 years of age and you are not registered with them, you must submit Documents A, Documents D, Documents E and Documents F.
  • When you are the legal representative of a minor under 16 years of age and you are not registered with them, you must submit Documents A, Documents D and Documents G.
  • When you request the certificate for a legally incapacitated person, you must submit Documents A and Documents G.

 

Documents A

Current personal identity document of the applicant:

  • Spanish nationals: Current Spanish national identity document (DNI), passport or driving licence.
  • European Union, Swiss, Norwegian, Icelandic or Liechtenstein nationals: current resident’s card, passport or identity document from the country of origin, or NIE (identity number for foreign nationals) certificate plus passport.
  • Nationals from all other countries: current resident’s card or passport.

Documents B

Express authorisation duly signed (only valid for one month from the date on the document).

Documents C

Photocopy of the personal identity document of the authorising person.

Documents D

Personal identity document of the minor:

  • Spanish nationals over 14 years of age: DNI or passport.
  • Spanish nationals under 14 years of age: family book or birth certificate and DNI or passport, if they have one.
  • Foreign nationals: resident’s card, passport or identity document from the country of origin (the latter document only if they come from the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein). If the minor’s documentation does not show all the details of the parents, it will be necessary to provide the family book (where they exist in the country in question) or birth registration, or the parents’ passport including all the minor’s details.

Documents E

Photocopy of the personal identity document of the parents registered with the minor.

Documents F

Joint statement of consent, with handwritten signature, of the parents registered with the minor.

Documents G

Court ruling and certificate of acceptance of the role of legal representative.
