Intermediation service for renting empty business premises
Intermedia Locals is a new municipal intermediation service to get business activity into empty ground-floor premises. Promoted by Barcelona Activa, the aim of the service is to connect owners of business premises in Barcelona with entrepreneurs and businesses looking for premises to operate from, with below-market rents, subsidies of up to 3,000 euros for owners and advantageous conditions for both parties.

Premises forming part of Intermedia Locals must be on the ground floor and have been unused for business purposes for at least 12 months.
Once they have been valued, premises must be offered with rents at least 15% below the calculated price and their characteristics and potential must be in line with current regulations. Barcelona Activa will then look for projects to move into them and use them as shops, offices or workshops. Consideration will be given to the economic feasibility and suitability of projects in relation to the local environment and regulatory framework, and whether the project corresponds to strategic areas for the neighbourhood of the city.
Once the contract has been closed (for a minimum of 5 years), Barcelona Activa will award 3,000 euros to the owners of the premises, which can only be used for work to condition or improve the property, getting utilities connected or contracting insurance for the rental income.
