The Plaça de Barcelona initiative is about to become a reality. A large travelling square, 12 metres in diameter and 5 metres high, will be taking the Barcelona brand through Europe to showcase the city’s commitment to science, innovation, culture and the business ecosystem. The goal is to reach not just the public in general but also international entrepreneurs and investors, to attract new projects and talent to the city, in addition to positioning it in the world.

Plaça de Barcelona will be showcasing the city’s various facets using a modern and high-impact tool, launched by the City-Promotion Department. The installation will see its first big international promotion campaign at the Lisbon Sónar Festival on 31 March and 1 and 2 April. It will also feature at the Barcelona Sónar in June and is expected after that to reach several other European capitals.

A made-to-measure immersion in Barcelona

The travelling square will be a meeting and discussion space, offering three immersive experiences. It will offer 360-degree screens, a virtual experience for transporting users to several of the city’s spaces, and an interactive activity: depending on the interests of each visitor – science, research, investment, architecture, studies etc. –, it will offer a made-to-measure Barcelona map .

The installation will also play host to talks inside organised in collaboration with the city’s organisations where it is installed. These sessions will be used for explaining the city’s various attractions such as its innovation ecosystems.

Various stakeholders and executives from Barcelona’s cultural, business and science organisations took part in the design of this initiative, which symbolises a meeting point between Mediterranean cities.
