Patricia Esquivias

Opening 5 May 2026

This exhibition centres around the epistolary relationship built between Patricia Esquivias and the characters linked to her works over the years. These writings, based on stories gathered and stories inferred, raise open questions that are often not intended to be answered – they simply offer the grounds upon which to choose the pieces that make up the exhibition.

The exhibits include works produced over the course of her career, some on display for the very first time and others never shown together until now. The project is a collaboration with Caniche publishing house, who as well as publishing the book with the entire collection of letters have also taken care of conceptualising the exhibition.

Patricia Esquivias (Caracas, Venezuela, 1979) develops works that focus on analysing social stories and the symbolic codes that underpin them. Using video, drawing, photography and installations, she retrieves muted stories and suggests new ways of telling them. Her work has been displayed by institutions such as CA2M, MARCO, Reina Sofía, Hammer Museum and White Columns.

Caniche is an independent publisher focussing on hybrid projects where art meets publishing. Their catalogue gathers books that span from artists’ publications and visual thinking to critical documentation on contemporary practice. Caniche regularly collaborates with artists and curators to shape unique publications embracing experimental, author-centred formats.
