Part of the display ‘Un espai per un temps: Escoltes divergents’ and the temporary exhibition ‘Escoltar amb les mans. Suports obsolets, missatges efímers’.
The Baschet brothers developed their sound sculptures and experimental instruments at the start of the 50s, at the same time that the electronic acoustic sound of musique concrète was being conceived, thanks to technology and magnetic tapes. The first Baschet patent in 1958 already included the possibility of adding a contact microphone to connect it to tape to create echo effects (Time Loop Delay). Now we're looking at this possibility again, inviting you to explore this procedure by playing and recording sounds with the Baschet Multimbral Kit and various radio-cassette players with 5-second loops, playing them and recording them again, modifying the speed/tone of loops etc., playing with the logic typifying the first minimalist experimental unit. Besides playing and experimenting with sound, this activity includes a brief insight into the context of the Baschet work and the way this kit works, plus a demonstration of the transformation process of a normal cassette into one which allows the user to record six-second loops. Participants can take cassettes to modify them as they wish.
