Traditional dances
The second day of performances by groups that promote traditional and popular Catalan dances from Barcelona will start with the Ballets de Catalunya (11 am), who have been working since 1953 to recover and promote traditional and folk dance. They will perform with live music by the group De Soca-Rel. Half an hour later, it will be the turn of the Esbart Dansaire Renaixença (11.30 am), involved in the cultural and festive scene with stick dances or spoken dances, among other demonstrations of traditional culture.
The Esbart Sant Martí (noon) promotes traditional dance and creates imaginative and entertaining dances inspired by folk music. Meanwhile, the Esbart Sant Jordi/Esbart Joventut Nostra (12.30 pm) will perform together, showcasing dances from the Catalan Countries and newly created ones.
Once again, La Mercè will dedicate a prominent space to Catalan-speaking lands' popular dance and Barcelona's dance groups. These two mornings of performances will delight the knowledgeable audience and introduce newcomers to the country's and city's rich dancer traditions. Eight groups with a wide range of repertoires will celebrate the festival with the families who visit the Albéniz Palace.
