"BATUK" concert, within "BAM - Barcelona Acció Musical”

Batuk (South Africa / afro-house, kwaito, rap, soul, zouk).

If you also think that house music can serve as an instrument to connect the African diaspora through the rhythm culture, you won't want to miss Batuk. After some changes to the formation, Batuk is the producer and rapper of South African Spoek Mathambo and the Mozambican singer and performer, Carla Fonseca, alias Manteiga. The project was born as a way to connect afrohouse with Angolan music, using rhythm as a thread between dance music in South Africa, Mozambique, Brazil, Portugal, Uganda, the Congo and more . But the Pan-African vocation in Musica da Terra (2016), Batuk's LP debut, has evolved into a tribute to the music with which they grew up in their native South Africa with Kasi royalty (2018): kasi is, In Afrikaans, the slang used to refer to the ghettos to which the non-white population moved during apartheid. The result is a danceable mix of electronics, urban rhythms and contemporary R & B.
