The annual festivities are almost over for another year. After four days of festive activities, the City Giants want to make the most of every last minute of the celebrations and do so in some of the most intimate events of La Mercè.
Jaume and Violant, accompanied by the big-headed Macers, will leave City Hall as part of a musical procession in which they will give the best of themselves. They will dance to the marches and pasodobles played by the Perdigots (Talla Gran), an ensemble of flabiols, metal wind and percussion instruments that come together exclusively for this event.
When they reach Palau de la Virreina, they will be unable to hold back any longer, dancing non-stop to the sounds of the Contradansa dels Gegants de Barcelona, a melody dating back over a century that marks the start and end of their parades. The complicity of the musicians, giant carriers and audience will determine how long this final festive outburst goes on.
Did you know that, at the suggestion of the poet Joan Maragall, the City Giants actually belong to Barcelona’s children?
