Closing Ceremony

La Mercè 2023 bids farewell to the city residents on Avenue Maria Cristina with a grand fireworks and music display. However, before this pyrotechnic show begins, we can still attend another event that is just as communal and festive. We are talking about the Closing Ceremony, the final parade of the City’s Giants. Violant and Jaume will say their goodbyes to everyone in a street parade that took them from Plaça Sant Jaume to the Palau de la Virreina, where they will retire after a few days of intense activity. From the Opening Ceremony, the giants will have danced at the Vigil Night, the Service Procession, the Mercè Parade and the Mercè Procession. Now, they will traverse various streets of the Gothic Quarter to the palace on La Rambla, accompanied by the music of Els Perdigots.

On this occasion, however, we won’t see them perform their characteristic dance, which has been presented at the Mercè on three occasions: the Opening Ceremony, the Mercè Parade, and the Procession. The Closing Ceremony has another ritual that will move and entertain the audience, accompanying them to the doors of the Virreina. An event that will mark the conclusion of La Mercè's Giant Carrier (See 'Contredanse of the Giants of Barcelona’).
