Concert: "Alain Pérez y La Orquesta: Siempre hay un Au Tour" dins de "La Mercè és Música"
Alain Pérez y La Orquesta: Siempre hay un Au Tour (Cuba; timba/Latin-jazz)
He is a singer, but also a guitarist, bass player, percussionist, pianist, composer, producer and arranger, with close links to the Cuban jazz scene. And he is largely responsible for the sound that characterises big stars, ranging from Chucho Valdés, Celia Cruz and Isaac Delgado, to Los Van Van, Enrique Morente, Miguel Poveda and even Paco de Lucía. He was born in 1979 and by the age of 11 he was already studying at the conservatory. During that time, he witnessed the rise of timba, a beat considered synonymous with fiesta and dance. A member of Team Cuba, a great band formed by some of the biggest talents on the island, he put together the European band for Celia Cruz. The beginning of the 21st century found him in Madrid, where he worked with Enrique Morente and had musical accomplices such as Diego El CigalaEl Cigala and Javier Colina. In 2002, he recorded Cositas buenas with Paco de Lucía, a musician he introduced to Cuban music and culture and for whom he played bass for nearly a decade. Alain Pérez has continued to work with the most modern flamenco stars, producing for the cantaor Miguel Poveda.
Now, this great name in jazz, Cuban music and loads of other sounds comes to the city with La Orchestra, a band of 14 young Cuban musicians who are the perfect complement for this multi-instrumentalist, who will be playing the bass, but also brass, percussion and piano. The concert is part of Siempre hay un Au Tourtour, alluding to a phrase he learnt from the legendary Cuban musician Tata Güines. According to Alain Pérez. Siempre hay un Au Tour means that “there is always an option, a feeling, a door.” You will hear a mix of Cuban sound, boleros, salsa and timba, in numbers which, with humour and irony, speak about the everyday lives of Cuba's inhabitants today.
