Concert: the Barcelona Municipal Band: Towns, festivals and dance dins de "La Mercè és Música"
Banda Municipal de Barcelona: Pobles, festa i dansa [Towns, festivals and dance] (Barcelona; symphonic)
Music and dance enter a symbiosis that, in any culture, is synonymous with hedonism. The Barcelona Municipal Band accompanies the city's big annual festivals with music that evokes dance as a natural expression of every culture. Each town's festival allows us to rediscover their essence, and nothing portrays this better than music and dance. The programme includes tributes to masters like the Briton Joseph Horowitz, with a performance of Dance Suite (1992); Yosuke Fukuda, from Japan, with Symphonic dances (2010), and the Colombian composer Victoriano Valencia-Rincón, with a performance of Fandanguería (2010). These pieces are dance music from different parts of the world, complemented with compositions by three Catalan musicians, also written for dancing. They are Joan Lamote de Grignon, with a performance, on the 150th anniversary of his birth, of the sardana El testament de n’Amèlia; Joaquim Serra, on the 115th anniversary of his birth, with a performance of La fira, esbós simfònic (1928) and the sardana Ofrena a València (1948). And lastly, Manel Oltra, who was born in Valencia 100 years ago, with a performance of the sardana Commemorativa (1958). A festive concert, for enjoying and sharing culture.
