"Emel Mathlouthi” concert, as part of "BAM - Barcelona Acció Musical"

Emel Mathlouthi (Tunisia; Fusion / World music / Folk)

Known as "the voice of the Arab spring", this Tunisian artist has never been one to shy away from breaking new ground or expressing herself clearly, courageously and proudly when it comes to social rights and dignity. She took this song to Tunisia’s streets, where it ended up becoming the anthem of an entire people: "Kelmti Horra" ("My Word is Free"). Influenced by different maestros, ranging from Joan Baez and Amalia Rodrigues to Elisa Serna and Sheikh Imam, Mathlouthi fuses rock and trip-hop and the natural music of her Maghreb or the Middle East, where you can make out the hypnotic sounds of raggas and Gnawa culture.
