Concert: "Faneka: Caliu" dins de "La Mercè és Música"
Faneka: Caliu (Madrid /Catalonia; progressive folk/rock)
Progressive folk-rock, folk-punk, magic folk... These labels have been given to a band formed by guitar, cello, violin, cajon and the four female voices of the instrumentalists, Inés, Bruna, Anika and Miriam, who come from Madrid and Vic. Some band members had international training in Switzerland, which is why many of the songs are sung in English. They met in 2016 and subsequently set up a crowdfunding process to self-produce their first album. This was followed by an EP, El viento y la flor, and then a second album entitled Caliu, whose influences range from folk and 1960s rock to ska, swing, rap, flamenco and even classical music. They chose the name of the album in 2021, after a concert in Manlleu, when one of the spectators thanked them for such a “caliu” [hot] concert; they liked the word and used as a title. Para ahuyentar a un Demonio, Little Lights, Green Grass and Silbidito are some of the almost fairy-tale melodies on an album that some say has almost therapeutic qualities. It includes two cover versions: one by the Mexican and American singer Lhasa de Sela and another by Tom Waits.
