Modo libre is a collaborative music project born in 2019 in Santa Clara, Cuba, which experiments with Cuban and universal rhythms. Its aim is to present the original work of its members, but also to offer a fresh take on the music of other artists, with new registers.
At Música Mercè, Jonás Estefen Pérez Rodríguez and Katherine Herrero de Armas (Cuba) and Juan Pastor Giménez (Catalonia) will be offering a concert focused on the Habanera, with versions of some of the most representative works of traditional Cuban music along with other more contemporary numbers and styles closely linked to the Cuban sound. On piano, flute and double bass respectively, and with the vocals of Pastor and Herrero, Modo Libre’s songs blur the boundaries between genres: we’ll even find jazz sounds mixed in with the nostalgic beats of the Habaneras. A musical melting pot.
The Habaneras cubanas of Modo Libre bring us the melodies of the Caribbean capital, songs with heart and soul, touched by 21st century music and styles. A journey to their origins with sounds of the present.
